Frank-Immo Zichner studied with Prof. Dieter Zechlin in Berlin and has won numerous awards, including the Robert-Schumann Competition Prize in 1986 and the Chamber-Music-Competition Prize (piano trio) in Colmar (France). Between 1986 and 1994 he was engaged as pianist at the Berliner Schauspielhaus (now Konzerthaus). He has recorded extensively for the radio and released more than 20 CDs, recording awards include the Prize of the German Music Critics (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), the Supersonic Award and the Diapason Découverte. He performed as a soloist and chamber music partner in more than 30 countries in Europe, Scandinavia, South-East Asia, Middle- and South-Amercia as well as in Japan and appeared at many international music festivals. He performed as soloist with a number of German orchestras, including the Deutsche Sinfonie Orchester, the Berliner Sinfonie Orchester, the Rundfunksinfonieorchester Berlin under the baton of Marek Janowski, Michail Jurowski, Michael Sanderling a.o. Since 2013 Frank-Immo Zichner is teaching at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
