Agnieszka Makówka graduated cum laude from the Academy of Music in Łódź in 1996, having already started a lifelong collaboration with the Łódź Opera House, singing Jadwiga in Straszny Dwór (The Haunted Manor by Moniuszko) in 1995. In summer 1996, she toured Belgium and France with the Łódź Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra, performing in Mozart’s Requiem. She won significant awards while still a student, obtaining a 2nd prize at the Inter-school Vocal Competition in Duszniki-Zdrój 1992, an honourable mention at the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau 1993, and a 3rd prize at the Ada Sari Vocal Art Competition in Nowy Sącz 1995. In 1996, she went to study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of Horiana Branisteanu, and a year later she was a finalist at the Antonin Dvorak Competition in Karlove Vary. She has been a soloist at the Łódź Opera House since 1998. Her repertoire includes over thirty parts, including Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri), Carmen (title role), Prezjozilla (La forza del destino), and Amneris (Aida). She he toured Europe with productions of the Łódź Opera, including Carmen, Madame Butterfly, Rigoletto, Nabucco, and Die Zauberflöte. She was a frequent guest of the major Polish orchestras, singing Mozart’s Requiem, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Penderecki’s Te Deum, and works of Szymanowski and Rossini. In addition to L'Hirondelle inattendue by Szymon Laks, she recorded two operas with the Polish Radio Orchestra in 2009 and 2010: Przygody króla Artura (The Adventure of King Arthur) by Grazyna Bacewicz and Monbar czyli Fibustierowie (Monbar or the Filibusters) by Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński, all conducted by Łukasz Borowicz. Agnieszka Makówka has received several awards for her artistic achievements, including the Polish Academy of Sciences Award 2000, the Marshal of the Łódzkie Voivodship 2006 and the Golden Mask Award for her performance of Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Great Theatre in Łódź (2006/2007 season).
