Founded in 1946 as the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin is distinguished not only by its exceptional concert programs, international reputation, award-winning recordings, and valuable radio productions. The musicians of the orchestra have cultivated a lively chamber music culture throughout its existence, and numerous well-known ensembles have emerged from the orchestra. The restrictions during the Covid pandemic required smaller concert formats with small orchestral formations; the chamber music spirit in the DSO was fortunately able to draw almost unreservedly from its ample resources. The ensemble made up of wind players and percussionists took the opportunity to conceive this unique program and record it simultaneously for the radio audience as well as for this CD.
